Accessibility

Built to be used by everyone.

Lost & Found Animal Foundation is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We continually work to improve the usability of this site and aim to follow recognized accessibility best practices.

Our commitment

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a practical benchmark for design and development decisions. This site has not been formally audited or certified, so we describe this as an ongoing effort rather than a claim of full compliance.

Keyboard navigation

Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to main content” link appears when you first press Tab, menus and dialogs can be closed with Escape, and interactive elements are reachable in a logical order.

Visible focus

Buttons, links, form fields, and carousel controls show a visible focus indicator so keyboard and switch-device users can always see where they are on the page.

Alternative text

Photographs of our animals, volunteers, and events carry descriptive alternative text. Images that are purely decorative are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise to the page.

Forms and labels

Form fields have persistent visible labels, required fields are marked in both text and markup, and validation messages are announced rather than signalled by color alone.

Contrast and readability

Our palette is chosen for contrast against its background, body text uses generous sizing and line height, and layouts reflow without loss of content when text is enlarged up to 200%.

Responsive design

The site is designed for phones, tablets, and desktops, with tap targets sized for touch and no reliance on hover to reach content.

Motion

Animated elements, including our sponsor and success-story carousels, respect your operating system’s “reduce motion” setting. Auto-scrolling content pauses on hover and on keyboard focus, and can always be advanced manually.

Third-party services

Some functionality is provided by external platforms — including Jotform for applications, Donorbox for donations, Chewy for our wish list, and embedded video and social content. When you use these features you are interacting with a third-party website whose accessibility is controlled by that provider, not by us. We choose partners with accessibility in mind, but we cannot guarantee their conformance.

Known limitations

Some older photographs and archived stories may have shorter alternative text than we would like, and documents supplied to us by partners may not be fully tagged. We correct these as we find them and welcome reports.

Reporting an issue

If you encounter a barrier on this site, please tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you were using. We aim to respond within five business days.
