About the foundation

We fight for the dogs others may overlook.

Lost & Found Animal Foundation is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Southern Nevada. We help animals in need, with a particular understanding of large and working breeds that can be harder to place.

Our story

It Started With a Dog Named Sunset

Lost & Found Animal Foundation began with a lifelong love for the dogs too often overlooked.

Years ago, our founder found a German Shepherd mix wandering along Sunset Boulevard. She named her Sunset, brought her home, and spent the next 14 years with a dog who would forever change the way she saw the breed.

Later, after four years volunteering at a local shelter, she saw how many large dogs — especially German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and other working breeds — desperately needed help. After repeatedly struggling to find rescues able to take them, she decided to stop waiting for someone else to step in.

Lost & Found Animal Foundation was born.

Today, we give dogs the time and support they need to succeed through loving foster homes, medical care, training, exercise, socialization, and patience. Dogs labeled difficult, high-drive, or even unadoptable often just need someone willing to give them a real chance.

Every adoption, every family update, and every dog thriving in a new home reminds us why we keep going.

“It started with Sunset. Today, her legacy lives on in every dog we save.”

How we help

A real chance starts with the right support.

Our passion for working breeds informs our care, but our commitment extends to every animal who needs someone in their corner.

Rescue

We step in for animals facing cruelty, homelessness, shelter overcrowding, or circumstances their families can no longer manage.

Care and rehabilitation

Veterinary care, training, exercise, socialization, and patience give each dog the foundation to move forward.

Foster support

Loving foster homes provide a safe place to decompress, recover, and show who these dogs truly are.

Lasting placement

We work with adopters and our community to make thoughtful matches built for lifelong success.

Our founder

Arina Hanciulescu

Arina founded Lost & Found Animal Foundation after years of hands-on shelter and rescue work in the Las Vegas valley. What began as one person refusing to look away has grown into a community of fosters, volunteers, veterinary partners, adopters, and supporters doing the same.
